Check In

Check In

Are you a problem-solver?

Do you know where to turn for parenting solutions? Do you consult parenting experts? Do you read up on a parenting topic, take classes, or arrange for a private coaching session? Do you look for answers on the internet?

All is well and good so far.

Congratulations on searching for solutions and taking responsibility for finding appropriate answers for your own parenting life. There is one problem though. Your search for solutions has taken you exclusively outside of yourself. It has pointed you in a direction that ignores one of the most useful places where solutions frequently reside. You forgot to check it out inside.

Each of us has a wise part within, a place that knows what is right for us. We have heard it called conscience, inner-knowing, gutlevel feeling, intuition, and talking to God. Regardless of what you call it, this place is a valuable and often neglected resource for many people as they attempt to find answers and solve problems in their lives.

Often, the really important answers to the really important questions do not lie outside ourselves in other experts or manuals. They lie within us. Cultivate that inner-knowing. Befriend it and trust it. Use it in conjunction with all the other valuable resources this universe provides to help you with your decision-making.

Typically, we have been trained not to believe that we know what we know. We have numbed out that wise part within us, ignored its messages, and haven’t taken the time to quiet ourselves so we could hear its subtle rumblings and urges. No more. To parent like no other it is time to check in, listen to your inner-voice, and trust that it knows better than anyone or anything what is true and right for you.
