Civilized society is defined by how we treat our poor, our sick and our elderly. All told, we can do a whole lot better. We can do a whole lot better at looking out for our fellow human beings.
We can offer a smile, a kind word, a hug, a listening ear, and a random act of kindness – helping improve and increase our connection to all living things.
We are all in this game of life together Here’s what’s going on in my heart and soul.
I am horrified and distraught over the Middle East war and the surprise attack on innocent Israeli citizens. It was an act of slaughter and terrorism of over 1200 souls, like we have not seen in a very long time. The 240-plus hostage abduction on October 7 is unforgivable. It’s inexplicable how barbaric violence is cast upon innocent citizens now held captive in tunnel caves. How could this massacre have happened?
We must release ALL the hostages and let them return home to their families, NOW.
I invite us, as a civilized society, to build on acceptance of our differences, embrace our diversity, educate ourselves about one another’s customs, rituals and practices. Not just the same tribe, but branch out to meet people of backgrounds different than our own.
At this holiday time, we celebrate our connections with gift giving. May I suggest, we reach out to those “less fortunate” and demonstrate the gift of good cheer. Be generous. Be inclusive. Be kind. Let’s behave and treat each other and all living things with respect, dignity and love.
We are, after all, miracles in our own right. What if? Imagine? What would it be like… to have people be nice to one another? Imagine a world of cooperation, acceptance and love….
I invite you to ask yourself:
What more can I do? How can I be a leader in this climate of misunderstanding, violence and hate speech?
What if my loved ones were abducted and held captive for over a month?
What can I do, how can I act responsibly?
Make some adjustments.
Reach out to someone you haven’t been reaching out to. Make a difference. Live your life powerfully. Like it matters!!
While we end this year’s column with hopes for a better future, please be mindful of those humans suffering because of separation from their families.
From our family to yours, may this season shine bright, may safety and security be your sacred right. May comfort, joy and community fill your heart with song, and
