The view that Crazy Uncle Mike’s is Boca Raton’s most innovative venue may seem a bit over the top, but one visit will convince you that this observation is on target. Proprietor Mike Goodwin has assembled a micro brewery, a world class menu and an entertainment package the likes of which has never been seen in Boca.
The brewery, located in an alcove to the left of the entrance, is managed by the accomplished brew master, Corey Wilson. A buzzing, animated bar is one of the main focal point of the spacious room. Several separate islands furnished with conformable couches and upholstered chairs are perfect for groups who want to mingle. The far end of the room contains a stage that features the very best contemporary music every day. Al fresco seating is available on the covered outdoor patio and nearby charming garden, With myriad choices for myriad tastes, we were introduced to the brew master’s art with a flight (sample size glasses) of five of Corey’s astonishing beers, each vibrant, flavorful and uplifting. At every turn, our needs were smartly serviced by the adroit staff.
The daily menu is filled with vivacity and adventure thanks to the prodigious talent of Executive Chef Tara Abrams (calling Charles Beard & Michelin) and executed perfectly by Sous Chef, Andres Avayu. Our feasting began with a starter worthy of endless superlatives: the utterly crisp Bacon Croquettes, a masterful creation filled with a heavenly creamy center accented by hints of aromatic bacon.
The Chef’s tacos are treats fit for the gods. Veggie Elote partners cauliflower, broccoli, black beans, pickled onions roasted butternut squash with corn avocado relish, and touches of chili lime crema. You may want to follow with the Pork Belly accented with kung pao glaze, pickled slaw, cucumber, cilantro and sesame seeds The Fish Tacos star satiny grilled Mahi enlivened by cilantro lime slaw, avocado., mango and chili crema while the Braised Chicken Taco overflows with filet, roasted corn salsa and chipotle mayo Brussel Sprout Flatbread brings more ingenuity with its layering of roasted sprouts, bacon, caramelized onions, mozzarella and hot honey over an ethereal baked base. One could easily run out of superlatives to describe The Smoked Pulled Pork and Grilled Cheese sandwich filled with a bounty of mouthwatering seasoned strands buttressed by flows of smoked Gouda and cheddar-jack cheeses kicked up a notch by pickled jalapeños. And what better way to finish this epicurean epic than indulging in the seductive Rum Cake parked along side an absolutely brilliant berry coulis and fresh fruit.
