Cinnamon pastries are a staple at most bakeries. They can be in the form of buns , Danishes, coffee cakes, babkas and even deliciously textured cinnamon raisin bread. You can buy them ready to bake in the dairy section or in the freezer section of the supermarket. I’ve tried cinnamon pasties in all these styles and even more than I can remember at the moment, but none of the varieties compare to the experience of biting into one of the freshly baked cinnamon masterpieces of Boca Raton’s recently opened Cinnaholic, a gourmet Vegan and Kosher oriented haven, located in The Shoppes at University Park.
As Charles Dickens wrote almost two centuries ago, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times as we drove along the delightfully traffic free streets of Boca on the Sunday before Memorial Day. What made it the worst of times was the endless rain bands of sub-tropical storm Alberto which flooded every square centimeter of the city. When we arrived at the charming Cinnaholic shop, the rain had stopped and we popped into the petit dining room with its sparkling open kitchen and a handful of stylish tables.
The appetizing aroma of freshly baked cinnamon treats filled the cozy shop filled with friendly staff and customers. Manager Meir Anton greeted us and invited us to sit at a window table with a view of the deliciously displayed baked specialties. Moments after we placed our order, the shop was flooded with even more customers. We were amazed at the tsunami of patrons, but less so after we dug into our phenomenal gourmet cinnamon rolls that the staff prepared to our specifications.
The freshly baked roll is a treat in itself, but becomes a superlative delicacy when enhanced with one or more of the eighteen signature frosting flavors and one or more of the twenty crafted toppings. We ordered the popular Cookie Monster adorned with cream cheese frosting, cookie dough, chocolate chips and chocolate sauce – incredibly yummy. So was our customized roll with orange cream frosting and fresh strawberries..
Leave some room for scrumptious homemade cookie dough, brownies and assorted cookies as well as a selection of beverages including the incomparable Segafredo coffee.
Make every special occasion festive with a Cinnacake (requires 24 hour advance notice) which comes in three different sizes and prepared with one frosting flavor and up to five toppings. The Do It Yourself Topping Bar allows you and your guest to customize rolls, cookie dough, Baby Buns, brownies and cookies wherever you please. There is also a catering menu to serve all of your needs. Service at Cinnaholic is outstanding and they offer three free toping to students from FAU, Lynn and Palm Beach State College.
