I love the quiet of the early morning, especially the dawn of a new day. As I sit before my computer on this Monday after Thanksgiving, with just a hint of daybreak, I am reminded of Albert Einstein. He said, "The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe." I suspect he was speaking about our perception and attitude. Just think about it… rose colored glasses… the cup is half empty… my way or the highway… these are all part of our conditioning.
Personally I don´t think it really matters whether the universe is friendly or hostile, because it’s not about the universe. It’s about us. It’s about our thoughts, our perceptions and our unique filters that process what we think.
With the holidays upon us, most people have a potpourri of thoughts and feelings that turn on and off like Christmas lights. How about reframing your thinking to create more joy and happiness? Would you like to feel better about what tomorrow may bring?
Take a look inward, and see if you suffer from negative thinking. Believe me, it is very common. Negative thinking arises from perfectionism, feeling unworthy, discontent and fear. It can perpetuate itself over a lifetime, so let’s switch it up right now.
It turns out we can change negative thinking into positive thinking, and maybe free ourselves from the imprisonment of limited perception. Tune in to the inner dialogue you have with yourself. Listen in to your own mind. If what you hear is good, great! If not, adjust the messages you feed yourself to healthier thoughts. Yes, we feed our thinking! “The good news is,” Robert Schuller said, “that the bad news can be turned into good news when you change your attitude.”
I am reminded of the song “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie… sing along as you read:
The sun will come out tomorrow Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow
There´ll be sun
Just thinkin´ about tomorrow Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow
´til there´s none
When I´m stuck with a day that´s grey and lonely
I just stick up my chin and grin and say, oh
The sun will come out tomorrow So you gotta hang on ´til tomorrow, come what may! Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow You´re always a day away!
Doesn’t it feel good to feel good about the day? About tomorrow? A good attitude will go a long way to delivering happy food to your cells. As you embark on the holidays, with snowbirds in flight, holiday lights shining in abundance, and the glorious weather and bright shining sun that make South Florida our paradise, start seeing a friendly universe, and celebrate the true gifts of life.
Happy Holidays - Happy New Year 2017! May you be blessed!
