For almost a decade and a half, this charming enclave has been serving a variety of signature appetizers, pizzas, sandwiches and mains prepared in house with the finest ingredients. Proprietor Frankie Todisco bakes his own bread and during the height of the tourist season happily prepares his crispy ciabattta bread gluten free. Patrons with celiac symptoms may want to request gluten free pasta and/or ravioli.
The ambiance is totally relaxing and unassuming. Two rooms side by side offer abundant seating at small tables and comfortable booths. The first room contains a counter for pickup and displays a variety of pictures including those of the owner’s family. The larger second seating area features photos of some of baseball’s greatest stars such as Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris.
Service comes straight from the heart with Frankie himself making the rounds and chatting with the customers. We arrived on Thanksgiving Eve when Florida was shivering from the cold wave sweeping across the nation. To our surprise, there were throngs of customers enjoying the inner warmth and a cross section of Talia’s best.
There is nothing more appealing on a freezing winter’s evening than a huge bowl of steaming soup. For a mere $6, the kitchen delivers a basin sized portion of Pasta Fajioli large enough for two, maybe three. The rich broth is packed with tender cannelloni beans and al dente pasta –a flavor combination that is unbeatable.
Salads are just as scrumptious and prodigious. The Gorgonzola, Walnut, Apple, Cranberry Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad ($10) contains all of the above plus a few other ingredients blended in the Romaine lettuce base..
Don’t miss the signature risoto dishes. The Wild Mushroom Risoto ($14), filled with slices of earthy mushrooms is creamy, but not heavy, with touches of fresh garlic to create a a vibrant and intensely flavored combination.
Sandwiches are served by the half ($6) or full ($10). The full sized Michelangelo is a delight fit for two. Layers of herbed chicken cutlet, eggplant, and mozzarella with hints of basil and roasted red peppers are a banquet locked in between slices of supremely crunchy ciabatta.
We finished with the perfect pairing of satiny Tiramisu and a decadently rich cannoli. For your convenience, take out, delivery and catering services are available. To learn more about Talia’s Tuscan Table, visit www.taliastable.com.
