The Cuban Cafe Restaurant

For Peerless Classic Cuban Cuisine

By Arnold Leir
Tucked away in a contemporary, granite toned mall, the Cuban Café in Boca Raton is barely noticeable from the well trafficked North West Second Avenue (aka Boca Raton Boulevard). Religious, professional and a variety of other commercial buildings dominate the street making it difficult to spot the Cafe from the road. Once you arrive at the entrance, you soon discover that this is one of the hot spots in Boca. Judge for yourself as you try to find a parking spot between the Jaguar’s, BMW’s and Audi’s.

So loyal are the patrons, according to proprietor Anamaria Prada, that the waiters can anticipate what regular customers like to eat and drink, Service is extraordinarily prompt from the moment you enter to the final sip of coffee or wine.

The informal, almost brassiere style ambiance, makes the most of its space with a series of intimate sections decorated with colorful prints, photos and a variety of plants, The tile covered bar provides comfortable seating for the single patron wanting prompt service, You are assured of total culinary integrity because every morsel is prepared with an abundance of fresh, quality ingredients. A portion of Calado Gallego ($2.95/$3.50), a traditional soup filled with savory white beans, is my favorite way to kick start a Cuban meal. Appetizers tantalize on every level. I could build a fantastic meal with any combination of my favorites. On this occasion, I ordered the Empanada, ($2.50) that can best be described as a tart filled with magnificently seasoned beef enveloped by a fragile, flaky crust. With these prices, it is obvious that Anamaria has not allowed inflation to affect the price or quality of her cuisine.

Complement you selections with wine by the glass or bottle, both available at modest prices. Homemade sangria plus a variety of imported and domestic beers are also on hand to enhance the Café’s incomparable signature offerings.

The peerless cuisine has a sophistication that is sure to please even the most discriminating diner. Ensalada de Pescado ($15.95) is a scrumptious salad creation that features a luscious sautéed fish filet buttressed by a bounty of crisp veggies that can be energized by the house crafted vinaigrette. As for entrees, the flawless Pechuga a la Plancha ($8.95/$12.95) will wow you with marinated chicken filets, masterfully grilled, topped with sautéed onions and partnered with plump plantains, seasoned black beans and a heap of superlative rice.

Desserts, such as the in house Flan and Double Chocolate Cake are simply sensational, especially when paired with a soothing cup of Café con Leche. Log on to Anamaria’s colorful website at www.cubancafe.com to learn more about The Cuban Café’s incomparable offerings and catering.
