Getting Back to Nature

By Dana Gore

Who would’ve thought, back in the day, that with the click of a mouse or the touch of a button that we would be able to share photos, daily routines and our careers instantaneously with everyone we’ve ever known? Or read more than a dozen books all on one fabulous electronic book reading device?

Yeah, technology. It’s pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

So while the aforementioned perks of today’s world offer some fantastic benefits… there is, however, something to be said about the simplicity of getting back to nature.

Stepping into a fully equipped fitness center makes me feel like a kid in a candy store (OK well maybe not so much anymore since I know about the dangers of high fructose corn syrup) and I do love being able to use the newest and greatest gadget on the market when I get the opportunity. Lately though, I have discovered (or more accurately re-discovered) how amazingly awesome it is to… Go outside.

The truth is, folks, that we are energetic beings. We live, love and experience emotions. We think and get thought (nope that’s not a typo, but more on that in another issue) and our bodies respond to the images and philosophies we choose to accept as our own. So, if this is true, which it is, then wouldn’t it make sense that by connecting with nature, we are only enhancing the flow that makes us live and thrive?

I went for a walk the other day since it has FINALLY cooled down a bit. I felt so alive! There were people to smile at. The air was clean and the overall feeling was absolutely divine. Now, I normally do not care for crowds, however, there was an unspoken understanding between myself and the many “strangers” on my path that we were in love with the good ol’ outdoors.

The walk, although intense enough to be considered a workout, didn’t feel as such. It felt like a gift and if you already understand the benefits of a good workout, then you’ll comprehend how it’s magnified when combined with the honest and humble beauty of nature.

So get on out there! Ride your bike (and stay in the bike lane, please), go for a run on the beach. Breathe the fresh air. And hug a tree. Happy Holidays!
