It’s time for beginning your home decluttering activity.
As we move into early spring, the weather in South Florida has been and seems to be idyllic. Cool temps, offshore breezes, no hurricanes, fires or storms to speak of. Thank goodness!
As we MARCH into spring, let’s consider opening up those windows and let the fresh air fill your lungs, living room and all parts of your living space.
Simply by pulling up closed shades and physically opening the windows, we let in new, fresh energy while airing out the old. Let the cool breezes circulate through your home with cleansing vibrations. and let the sunshine disinfect and beam a warm glow into your environment.
Maybe even a sageing or spiritual cleansing prayer or utterance can bring about wholesome goodness, optimal health, and well-being to your home.
Once we have “emerged” from the wintertime season, we can look at spring cleaning.
This doesn’t mean buy more FEBREZE or AIRWICK solids… quite the contrary. ELIMINATE TOXIC FUMES and neuro-inhibiting chemicals from your home. None of these mass-produced odor eliminators are healthy for you, your kids, or your pets. They are formulated to replicate aromas we love, with chemicals we hate. Use DIFFUSERs with essential oils for an alternative to headache and respiratory ailments caused by nonhuman laboratory formula fragrances.
Fresh flowers, pine needles, even cinnamon sticks add vitality to the air. Consider, too, an air filter to aid in removing pollutants, dust and pet hair. It’s all staging for a healthier home.
What’s next? Window washing?
Garage organizing? Closet makeovers? Truth is, anytime is a good time to start clearing the clutter. I like to use my S.M.A.R.T. system of decluttering where the S stands for “start simply”.
Start simply means take on a targeted area to declutter that is relatively calm and noticeably easier to tackle. A medicine cabinet is easier than say, the kitchen pantry.
Try clearing off a nightstand. Of everything. Clean, polish and make a new, clean surface available. Then, SIMPLY place only what serves you and feels good, DELIBERATELY, back on the nightstand. Lamp, glasses, phone charger, a good book and a clock, and well, the rest goes in a drawer or elsewhere.
Having Clear and Clean surfaces goes a long way for clearing clutter and experiencing calm. Do your best to clear countertops. Simply, start with your guest bathroom. Should be in good shape, but check to see what’s on the counter and what could be moved off the counter, leaving a clean space open and clear of clutter.
Dresser counters have a habit of accumulating items that need attention. Jewelry, pens, pencils and paperclips, receipts, one sock looking for another, and just about anything from your pockets, purses and wardrobe. Take the Clean SWEEP challenge and remove EVERYTHING off the dresser, and start fresh, clean and clear. Then, and only then, DELIBERATELY place vital items and tools upon your dresser top. For some, it’s perfumes, for others, it’s a jewelry tree or tray. Customize it, and just know that a top drawer can handle a lot of the things you previously had on the surface.
Start Simply, Mindset, Action, Repurpose, Transformation. That’s my S. M. A. R. T. method in a few words.
So that’s it.
Nothing fancy this month.
In sum. Open up the indoors to the outdoors, let more light in. Remove and replace toxic aroma chemicals disguised as “FRESHENERS” while you systematically take on SIMPLE counter surfaces and eliminate the clutter.
