Toyota announced that it is recalling Tundras with the V35 engine due to machine parts contaminating the internal engine components during production. The replacement impacts roughly 98,568 engines. Dealerships are preparing for MY 2022 and 2023 Tundra truck engines in response to a May recall. This is for gas-powered engines only.
When engines began to fail, torn-apart machining debris was found within engines during disassembly. Symptoms include engine knock, loss of power, stalling, or a no start condition. The debris mixes with the oil, causing premature wear to the crankshaft and main bearings. If any of these symptoms occur, it could cause a crash. Replacing the engine is critical.
The company notified owners of this issue by late July, and released an update with the engine remedy on July 25, 2024. If you own one of these vehicles, check with your dealer to see if your vehicle falls within the recall. This is one of the most powerful engines Toyota has ever designed. The i-Force 5.7-liter is solely made at the Toyota factory in Huntsville, Alabama. Additionally, Troy, Missouri-based Bodine Aluminum, which is owned by Toyota, casts the aluminum engine block and heads. Therefore, this is the engine with the highest North American-manufactured content Toyota has ever developed.
