You pull up to an EV charger while on the road, only to find out it is out of order. If this has happened to you, here’s why.
With the huge push on Americans to step up and purchase electric vehicles, what about the infrastructure to keep Americans rolling down the road? It has been reported that some 4,000 EV chargers across the country are out of service. Why? Not enough technicians to repair them, as of October 05, 2023. The Biden Administration recently announced a $100 million fund dedicated to the repair and replacement of nonoperational charging infrastructure across the United States. Under the EV Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator project, both publicly and privately owned EV charging stations will be covered.
This market is competing with other electrical companies for technicians, in a pool that is already struggling to find new and upcoming candidates. Training these specialists will not be a quick task. With the aggressive approach to push for more charging stations by 2025, this could only exacerbate the problems in this already burdened sector. So, if you plan to take a long trip in your EV, you might want to seek out charging stations that are up and running; otherwise, your trip could change direction.
Happy Motoring.
