Since True is tucked away at the rear of a spacious courtyard, locating the bistro may require patience and/or a call to the restaurant. The inviting interior features a floor to ceiling blackboard artfully announcing specials, events and more. Sparkling glasses and white napery decorate a dozen tables covered with cloths embossed with a vibrant blue crab. A beautifully crafted wooden bar is the focal point for a fabulous range of beverages.
Not only does Robin treat us like family, but her remarkable insights make us want to order everything on the menu. Both of us eagerly awaited the food extravaganza that would shortly be arriving at our table. We were immediately attracted to Frank’s Famous Cream of Crab Soup, prepared to order and overflowing with delectable heaps of crab enhanced with shallots, sherry and touches of Old Bay seasoning. Home Sick Soup echoes a Maryland style red broth and approaches the richness of a seafood stew with its abundance of crab and assorted fresh vegetables.
The blackboard lists select wines and beers that are ideal counterpoints for starters and mains. Although the sea provides much of the bounty that the Chef features in his menu, he demonstrates his versatility with Tom’s Favorite Sliders, heavenly melt in your mouth brisket served on a pair of buns with cheddar, mayo, red onion and cherry peppers. Another delight, Shrimp Salad Sliders, feature scrumptious Maryland style shrimp salad seasoned with Old Bay. Both are perfect choices, delicious enough to form a perfect meal.
Our palates were further pampered by the True Blue Platter with its authentic Maryland style crab cakes made with the most succulent blue crab and just the perfect balance of seasoning – truly a feast for the gods. The side of divine Mac n Cheese and vibrant green beans were superlative complements. We were able to cap this magnicent feast with Sherri’s luscious Mud Bars, a coconut and chocolate ganache fantasy.
